Quick on the heels of Google's launch of its latest social-networking venture, Facebook said Wednesday that its 750 million users will now be able to make video calls on the site.
The feature will be based on Microsoft's Skype technology. In this Facebook chat you can do normal person-to-person calls as well as multi-person group chats. All you have to do to call a friend is click the video call button at the top of your chat window or at the top of that friend's profile. If the person that you want to talk to is not available, you can leave them a video message instead.
Facebook is making this new feature available in around the world. Video calling will be available to everyone over the next few days, but if you don’t want to wait, you can get it now by going to facebook.com/videocalling.
Facebook's new chat design includes a sidebar that features a list of the people that you message most often, it help easier to find the friends whom you are closest to you. This video calling service will be available in more than 70 in languages. The Skype partnership is part of improving new Facebook chat features.
