The First Avenger: Captain America Review, Pictures, Wallpapers

If you've seen the excellent trailer for Captain America, congratulations, you've seen 90% of the movie. I know the math doesn't exactly support this claim, but trust me, maybe there was voodoo involved. The first half of the WWII-era film centers on weak little Steve Rogers' super steroid-fueled transformation into the titular hero. It's enjoyable and there's some clever commentary on America's tendency to turn its heroes into propaganda. Once that suit is on, however, the good Captain becomes just another Neo. He flies across the screen in slow motion, eliminating faceless baddies with elegant ease and performing feats that even Superman would find impressive. Chris Evans does a fine job as the rather generic hero, but watching Stanley Tucci and Tommy Lee Jones ham it up in ancillary roles is far more entertaining. And Hugo Weaving, who plays the supernatural Nazi villain du jour, really nails his German accent while trying to take over the world with an advanced superweapon that basically amounts to "ray gun."

Captain America obviously exists only to familiarize young viewers with the somewhat archaic hero and get him in place for Marvel's upcoming Avengers movie. Although this is accomplished quite swimmingly, it is done so without notable humor, sex appeal or suspense. Whoever hired Joe Johnson got exactly what he wanted.

Breaking Bad Season 4 Premiere Bingo: Dark and Dangerous Times

Fans that’ve had to wait a full year since the incredible final shot of season three of Breaking Bad, we feel your pain. Vince Gilligan's show about a meth-dealing chemistry teacher (Bryan Cranston) and his former student/assistant (Aaron Paul) is constantly filled with incredible tension and, after last year’s finale, we all needed time to decompress while eagerly awaiting the next chapter. That wait is almost over.

Season four's premiere episode, "Box Cutter," is an exquisite exercise in tension and the episodes that follow keep this up as every major character seems to have a passed a major breaking point. Desperate to maintain control of his fate, Walt continues to entertain further notions of criminal activity, skipping towards black hat territory with a disturbing amount of pleasure. Jesse is putting on brave face, but having killing Gale has clearly damaged him. Continuing with their plans of purchasing the car wash, Skylar is getting more involved with her husband's illicit activities. And, of course, Hank, still struggling with his injuries, is taking out all of his frustration on Marie, who can only take so much.

Every note of these opening episodes is pitch perfect, building a slow crescendo of what looks to be an impressively strong season. It's especially great to see Skylar become more immersed in the business. Anna Gunn has always been great but the show has occasionally struggled to find a place for her and she really blossoms as she takes control over the business side of Walt's criminal enterprise. Interestingly, the Whites' son, Walter Jr. is missing in the season's first three episodes and it will be curious to see how his parents his manage to keep their secrets from him now that they're both involved.

The long wait proves well worth it as the fourth season of Breaking Bad continues to prove that this is one of the best shows on television.

• Midfielder Homare Sawa's 117th-minute goal capped Japan's comeback. Sawa, winner of both the Golden Boot (tournament high scorer) and Golden Ball (best player), and U.S. midfielder Carli Lloyd battled to control the midfield. Sawa was more efficient offensively, scoring on one of her two shots (both on goal), while Lloyd didn't put any of her seven shots on target. Sawa finished with 118 touches, third highest in the match, and completed 53 of her 71 passes (74.6 percent). Lloyd had a game-high 136 touches, completing 68 of her 84 passes (81 percent).

• Japan's ability to hold on to possession was a constant throughout the tournament. Japan completed 479 of its 635 passes (75.4 percent) in the final, the highest percentage by a United States opponent in the tournament.

• The United States (average height 5 feet, 7 inches) tried to exploit its height advantage over the Japanese (average height 5-4), particularly in attack. It was Japan, however, that completed the higher percentage of open-play crosses: the Americans were 7-for-31 (22.6 percent) while Japan completed 4-of-11 (36.4 percent).

• Abby Wambach scored in the 104th minute, her American-record 13th goal in Women's World Cup play, and finished with 74 touches while completing 39 of 55 passes (70.9 percent). Wambach had seven shots (tied for game-high) and three on goal, creating four scoring chances. Wambach is the first player to score in all three elimination rounds and the first American to score in four straight matches in a single Women's World Cup.

• Alex Morgan, who entered as a substitute at halftime, opened the scoring for the United States in the 69th minute, her second goal of the tournament and ninth career goal. It was the second straight game Morgan scored as substitute, as she became the first American to accomplish that at a single Women's World Cup.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 pick up where Part 1 left off, with Harry, Ron and Hermione hunting down the Horcruxes -- items into which the Dark Lord Voldemort has embedded pieces of his soul -- and the three Deathly Hallows, which "He Who Must Not Be Named" believes will grant mastery over death.

Their quest initially takes them to Gringotts Bank where, with the help of tricky goblin Griphook (Warwick Davis, under a mountain of impressive make-up), they must pull off the most dangerous of heists.

This spectacular sequence calls for Hermione to knock back the Polyjuice to disguise herself, which in turn allows Helena Bonham Carter to have a ball pretending to be Hermione pretending to be Bellatrix Lestrange.

This hilarious scene is followed by a rollercoaster set-piece that owes more than a passing debt to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (and feels more like a theme park attraction than a sequence necessary to the plot) before a giant, fire-breathing dragon lights up the screen in one of the film's many stand-out moments.

It's then back to Hogwarts for the final time, though it's no longer the happy, cosy refuge of previous instalments, but rather a Voldemort stronghold, with Death Eaters controlling the school, Dementors patrolling the perimeter, and the dastardly Severus Snape now headmaster.

Harry, Ron and Hermione join the underground resistance at work at the school, and the stage is set for war, with the teachers and pupils preparing to take a last stand against the forces of evil.

The second half of the film is therefore one huge, long battle, the Potter franchise turning into a war movie on an epic scale. Jaw-dropping sequences abound, from a dazzling broomstick escape to a stunning footbridge explosion to a dramatic attack on Hogwarts' wand-generated force-field. Indeed, the building itself actually comes to life, with Professor McGonagall casting a spell that sends the school's silent stone sentries into battle.

But while the effects are visually sumptuous, it's the smaller moments that truly take the breath away, from Neville Longbottom finding his inner warrior when all seems lost to the two central couples stealing kisses as death looms large.

Elsewhere the dramatic revelation of Harry's destiny gives the film its emotional core, while the disclosure of Snape's true agenda is delicately handled, with Alan Rickman delivering the film's stand-out performance as this most ambiguous of characters.
